What do you love about Charlottesville?

October 30, 2017

Despite the lack of rain earlier in the fall, there are some beautiful orange and gold leaf colors driving in from Ivy. Spring with the redbuds, dogwoods and azaleas is pretty spectacular here but fall takes a close second. As we drag out the sweaters, crank up the heat in the cold mornings and bite into crisp local apples we are reminded of the holidays lurking. Halloween is fun, Christmas is hectic but Thanksgiving is all about family. Despite recent unpleasant events in our beloved city I feel a stronger sense of family in our community. We have banded together in the face of hate. We have several Charlottesville themed items in the shop and through the month of November we will give a percentage of the sale of CVL items to the Heal Charlottesville Fund at the  Charlottesville Area Community Foundation.

What do you love about Charlottesville? One of my favorite pastimes was trick or treating on The Lawn with our children. We've all enjoyed going beyond the town limits to go apple picking. Now we head to the wineries! We're blessed with local talent and pour la maison is fortunate to have a relationship with some very special local creative people. Author Jan Karon continues to delight us with her Mitford series and graciously stopped in to autograph copies of her recent book. Nancy Bass left us a new supply of her cow pillows before heading south. We have a few kits immediately available and are taking orders for Kelly Trout 's fun cookie decorating kits for the next two months. Thierry continues to create her one of a kind pieces of jewelry keeping us well stocked with Harriet & Vee. Who hasn't walked in the shop and not been delighted by Priscilla Long Whitlock's magnificent paintings, many of which perfectly capture Virginia vistas. As much as we love France there is much to love locally!
